'And do not lead us into
temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Yours is the kingdom and
the power and the glory forever. Amen.' (Matthew 6:13 NASB)
"Watch and pray so that you will
not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is
weak." (Matthew 26:41, Mark 14:38 NIV)
They on the rock are they, which,
when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root,
which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.
(Luke 8:13 KJV)
When He arrived at the place, He
said to them, "Pray that you may not enter into temptation."
(Luke 22:40 NIV)
No temptation has seized you except
what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be
tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he
will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.
(1Corinthans 10:13 NASB)
My brethren, count it all joy when
ye fall into divers temptations (James 1:2 KJV)
Blessed is the man that endureth
temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of
life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. Let no
man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be
tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: But every man is
tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then
when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it
is finished, bringeth forth death. Do not err, my beloved
brethren. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above,
and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no
variableness, neither shadow of turning. (James 1:12-17KJV)
then the Lord knows how to rescue
the godly from temptation, and to keep the unrighteous under
punishment for the day of judgment, and especially those who
indulge the flesh in its corrupt desires and despise authority.
Daring, self-willed, they do not tremble when they revile angelic
majesties (2Peter 2:9-10 NASB)
Finally, be strong in the Lord and
in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can
take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is
not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the
authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the
spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on
the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may
be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything,
to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around
your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and
with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the
gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of
faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the
evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the
Spirit, which is the word of God. (Ephesians 6:10-17 NIV)
But I say, walk by the Spirit, and
you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. For the flesh sets
its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh;
for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do
the things that you please. But if you are led by the Spirit, you
are not under the Law. Now the deeds of the flesh are evident,
which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery,
enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes,
dissensions, factions, envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things
like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned
you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the
kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace,
patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness,
self-control; against such things there is no law. Now those who
belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions
and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the
Spirit. (Ga 5:16-25 NASB5)
For those who are according to the
flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who
are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For the
mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is
life and peace, because the mind set on the flesh is hostile
toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for
it is not even able to do so, and those who are in the flesh
cannot please God. However, you are not in the flesh but in the
Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone
does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him. If
Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the
spirit is alive because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of Him
who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ
Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies
through His Spirit who dwells in you. So then, brethren, we are
under obligation, not to the flesh, to live according to the
flesh-- for if you are living according to the flesh, you must
die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of
the body, you will live. For all who are being led by the Spirit
of God, these are sons of God. For you have not received a spirit
of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit
of adoption as sons by which we cry out, "Abba! Father!" The
Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of
God, and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs
with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be
glorified with Him. (Romans 8:5-17 NASB)
"Why do you call me, 'Lord, Lord,'
and do not do what I say? I will show you what he is like who
comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice. He is
like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the
foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that
house but could not shake it, because it was well built. But the
one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like
a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The
moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its
destruction was complete." (Luke 6:46-49 NIV)
Therefore, get rid of all moral
filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word
planted in you, which can save you. Do not merely listen to the
word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who
listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who
looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes
away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But the man who
looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and
continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing
it-- he will be blessed in what he does. (James 1:21-25
NIV)
As for you, my son Solomon, know
the God of your father, and serve Him with a whole heart and a
willing mind; for the LORD searches all hearts, and understands
every intent of the thoughts. If you seek Him, He will let you
find Him; but if you forsake Him, He will reject you forever.
(1Chronicles 28:9 NASB)
Now if we have died with Christ, we
believe that we shall also live with Him, knowing that Christ,
having been raised from the dead, is never to die again; death no
longer is master over Him. For the death that He died, He died to
sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God.
Even so consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in
Christ Jesus. Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body
so that you obey its lusts, and do not go on presenting the
members of your body to sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but
present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and your
members as instruments of righteousness to God. For sin shall not
be master over you, for you are not under law but under grace. (Romans
6:8-14 NASB)
Therefore be imitators of God, as
beloved children; and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you
and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as
a fragrant aroma. But immorality or any impurity or greed must not
even be named among you, as is proper among saints; and there must
be no filthiness and silly talk, or coarse jesting, which are not
fitting, but rather giving of thanks. For this you know with
certainty, that no immoral or impure person or covetous man, who
is an idolater, has an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and
God. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these
things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.
Therefore do not be partakers with them; for you were formerly
darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as children of
Light (for the fruit of the Light consists in all goodness and
righteousness and truth), trying to learn what is pleasing to the
Lord. Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but
instead even expose them; for it is disgraceful even to speak of
the things which are done by them in secret. But all things become
visible when they are exposed by the light, for everything that
becomes visible is light. For this reason it says, "Awake,
sleeper, And arise from the dead, And Christ will shine on you."
(Ephesians 5:1-14 NASB)
Whoever does not carry his own
cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple. For which one of
you, when he wants to build a tower, does not first sit down and
calculate the cost to see if he has enough to complete it?
Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to
finish, all who observe it begin to ridicule him, saying, 'This
man began to build and was not able to finish.' (Luke
14:27-30 NASB)
